UKTI Regional Director visits ENERGUS

GEN II and Pentagon Chemicals were praised for their exporting recently as a UK Trade and Investment boss visited the area.

Northside’s Pentagon Chemicals and Lillyhall’s GEN II training played host to Clive Drinkwater, regional director of UKTI North West.

His visit, on Tuesday, saw him urge the region’s businesses to make the most of export opportunities. He toured GEN II’s Energus Centre and the Pentagon Chemicals plant.

Representatives from the firms discussed export strategies with Mr Drinkwater, who said the area had excellent potential for exporting.

He said: “Although this area is predominantly rural, there are some excellent businesses here. We are committed to helping these thrive both here and overseas.“GEN ll and Pentagon are outstanding examples of Cumbrian companies employing sound industry knowledge and advanced technology to remain competitive in a difficult environment.

“Their products and services are in demand worldwide and there is still plenty of potential for them to grow their business by expanding in to new markets.”

The Lillyhall training provider has been working with UKTI since last year on its Passport to Export programme. Since then staff from GEN II have had meetings with utilities and nuclear firms in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Mr Drinkwater added: “Our aim is to identify companies in this county where we can really help them to develop new export avenues.

“We are operating in a challenging environment, and maintaining international trade links has never been more important.”
